Green Resources for Chicago
Green real estate in Chicago is growing quickly. Each year, more condominiums are being constructed using Energy Star appliances and incorporating sustainable design techniques that cut utility costs and improve energy efficiency. In addition to green condos, Chicago is home to several developers that are using green techniques when rehabbing existing homes.
Because of this and extensive efforts by the City, Chicago is one of the greenest cities in the world. Mayor Dailey has made Green Building a priority during his tenure. Chicago was one of the first cities to offer expedited permits for developers that constructed green buildings, and it conducted a pilot project to encourage the design and construction of green affordable housing. In 2007, Chicago was home to the international GreenBuild conference, the largest convention highlighting the latest in green building technologies.
